With the recent passing of the harvest season in Querétaro, I think it's time to talk a bit about the vineyards in Querétaro. For several years now, I've been a fan and enthusiast of wine, starting with a small glass with my dad during barbecues at home, to now sitting with my friends to chat and enjoy a bottle of wine.
Querétaro has a great variety of vineyards that not only offer a wide range of high-quality wines (which have won international awards) but also provide a complete tourist experience, offering tours, tastings, special events, and gourmet restaurants.
When in Querétaro, my family and I often like to visit the vineyards or wineries, always trying to taste something different while enjoying the beautiful views they offer. As I have experience in the field, I’ll share my top three favorites:
Finca Sala Vivé by Freixenet México
This vineyard easily takes the top spot on the list. It is one of the most beautiful vineyards I've been to, and where I have many fond memories. This vineyard is mainly known for its underground cellars and production of international-quality sparkling wines, made using the traditional method.
Bodegas De Cote
Without a doubt, it's also one of my favorites because it offers a great variety of red wines that I love, specializing in varietals like Tempranillo and Merlot. They have great reserve wines from single or multiple varietals, as well as a very good selection of young white wines. In addition to the vineyard, they also have a gourmet restaurant with wine pairing and guided tours.
Vinos Donato
One of the best vineyard views I've ever witnessed, this vineyard offers a panoramic view of the Peña de Bernal that is simply breathtaking. It features a gourmet restaurant with an excellent menu and has a great variety of blend wines, aged wines, rosés, and whites. The vineyard offers various tours with tastings and has a large green area for visitors to enjoy.
Querétaro is a wonderful area for producing exceptional wines, especially near the Bernal area, which has nutrient-rich soil perfect for grapevines. The climate provides the ideal conditions for the grapes to develop perfectly, resulting in high-quality wines. If you ever have the chance to visit these vineyards or taste a wine from Querétaro, I promise you won't regret it.
